STBUT

TA-KU Songs to Break Up to

Hate to admit it, but I am crazy late to the Ta-ku party

Apparently I've been sleeping for the past year but this is one of the best complete project's I've heard in a long time. Proudly unashamed how sappy & sad the title admits... the music is just too damn good for all that emotion.

Came out of my coma about a month ago listening to his interview on Soulection radio (my Saturday routine,)
+ even though I do love me some Jhené, I can't bring myself to listen to anything else:

JOHNNY SWAM

JOHNNYSWIM - DIAMONDS

an album I have on heavy rotation this summer - Johnnyswim destroyed Bowery Ballroom last night -
feel-good soul/blues + big, fill-the-room voices

my favorite from Diamonds: Pay Dearly, (which Abner wrote for his father)
I could not wait to see/hear/feel this one again:

SZA

SZA @ Rough Trade Brooklyn

absolutely killlled it last night at Rough Trade in Williamsburg.
Her presence was so real + genuinely commanded her jam packed, sold out room
This woman can do no wrong.
She sounded and looked perfect in her Supreme button down, jelly sandals + that HAIR -

MIZAN

lyrics, voice, vibe. crazy good.
my newest obsession, Mizan.

MIZAN

"I'm not interested in being pretty or in being easily consumable. Not at all. In fact, everything I do should challenge people to understand me even if I'm not those things.
I'm interested in making good, innovative, meaningful music, in being provocative, and in being honest."

THE ICON : QUEEN BADU

Erykah Badu Red Bull Lecture Brooklyn 2013

BROOKLYN MUSEUM OF ART

Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to be a part of a lecture held by Red Bull Music Academy at the Brooklyn Museum with one of my all time favorite tastemakers, Miss Erykah Badu. Her music, lyrics, style, message everything has been a constant inspiration for me ever since my mom had Baduizm ('97) On & On in our house growing up. Her energy & aesthetic is just too dope. As this woman breathes, she creates. She said it best, "I gravitate toward artists I believe," and Badu is the truth.
