ROBERTS x GIVENCHY

Julia Roberts by Mert & Marcus for Givenchy Spring 2015

Power in a power suit.
Another strong campaign from Tisci who keeps winning/casting all my favorite icons (!)
So, so in love with this image and the message behind it:
" It was a very pure message. Very black and white. A powerful woman, with sex appeal but at the same time with masculinity, which is my style. And I wanted an honest campaign.
It was quite strong. She was very professional. Sometimes you shoot someone who’s so popular, you try to make it glam, but I really wanted her the way she arrived: black jacket, men’s shirt, jeans, which is really what we have in common. No hair, no makeup. I said to her, “Because your smile is so beautiful and everybody knows you for that, I think it should be no smile,” and she was really cool. She said we should go for it.
[On going with the no-makeup look:] She saw the first picture and she liked it, she said because “I can see myself, my real self.” Which was the concept, not to try to make her glamorous.
Today, celebrity has become so much [about] how many followers you have, how big you are on Facebook. For me, she represents a pure talent and a pure beauty. So many celebrities are celebrities today not because of their talent. That’s fine, it’s the moment today. But she’s an iconic actress.
I really like strong women. And Julia is a strong woman. So it’s not about fame. If it was about fame, I could have friends of mine who I really love [do it]. It’s more about the [model’s] strength as a woman, strength as a man. It’s always very difficult to find a strong man. It’s much easier to find a strong woman.  "

WONDER WHERE WE LAND

There are few things I love more than fall in NY.
Cheesing around this city + currently crushing on:
le usual, a mix of sportswear mixed in with tailored menswear pieces:
absolutely loved Public School's Spring collection, and have it heavy on my mind when I'm getting ready every morning, (cuts down on how long it takes to get ready... the PS-NY woman is a no-fuss, minimal, bossy beeyotch.)

finding it hard to listen to anything but the Childish mixtape right now - from start to finish, the samples on this thing are craaazy (!) such late 90s - early 2000s vibes. so good.

so many 10s on SBTRKT's Wonder Where We Land with all my favorites:
Sampha, Jessie Ware, Raury + my new love: Denai Moore

if you know me, you know I'm an ENORMOUS Erykah Badu fan.
I was so excited when she was first announced as the new face of Givenchy, and love to see her relationship with Tisci grow. She is such a constant inspiration not only aesthetically but spiritually - I could listen to Badu interviews all day !

EB: "But art is art to me. There's nothing new about cross-pollination in art to me because it's all one thing: an expression of who I am. I've always directed all of my videos and been in total control of my image. I write all of the lyrics, stage and produce all of the shows. It's something that comes very naturally to me. It's therapy. It makes me feel awesome, happy, centered and balanced when I can turn out some piece of art -- whether the world sees it or not. It's what keeps me going and breathing."

THE RUNWAY : GIVENCHY FALL 2013

The poem "Future Feminism" was placed on the guests' seats at this season's Givenchy show. Written by Antony, (of the band Antony and the Johnson's), the poem is a powerful statement confronting the gender of our society, and where it's headed.
"We are reaching the end of His story." :

PARIS: FW13

picks from Paris Fashion Week. Can't get enough of these three...

Haider Ackermann FW13

Huge. Fan. Always find this sort of magical hard/soft, masculine/feminine balance from Ackermann that presents a certain aesthetic that I really feel + relate to. This season was ooon. point.
The look was rough but strong; not without the power shoulder he perfects every season. Haider's woman does not need direction or take orders from anyone. She is effortlessly who she is.
This was a collection with obvious military influence. The details were everything : Shearling jackets with strong collars played along with the belted trend, yet maintained a uniqueness that didn't feel overdone. My current favorite pant shape was done in different fabrics + textures (favorites were the chocolate croc print and metallic printed trouser) that fit perfectly-imperfectly into the stupidly cool zippered boots.

Stella McCartney FW13

Stella (!!!)
This was a feel good collection from start to finish. I absolutely adore what the Stella woman represents. The pieces she sent down the runway were a clean, easy, no-fuss freedom. McCartney is confidence. There are few collections where the models look proud + powerful walking down the runway, and this is hands down one of them. In my obvious/overstated current love for menswear it's not hard to see why my jaw was pretty much on the ground as I clicked through looks. The platform motorcycle boot is a prominent trend of Fall 2013 and I don't hate it (at all!)
Aaand this cashmere sweatsuit? I mean. I just can't help it.

Givenchy FW13

This collection.
Rock n' roll gypsy with a hard feminine edge. Riccardo Tisci describes his fall 2013 season as "one of the most fun collections I've done in my career." The colors, shapes + textures expressed exactly that. This was a passion project from Tisci + easily one of the most exciting collections of Fall 2013. The details were hypnotic.
Florals found life in tough motorcycle jackets + fell into flowing gypsy skirts. The streetwear side of Givenchy remained strong in oversize sweatshirts + bomber jackets tied around the waist. Florals, plaid, lace + (my favorite from Resort 13) patchwork told a story of a rebellious romance. Some of my highlights were the black, long-sleeve jumpsuit, floral bombers, (always love the) graphic sweatshirts +  motorcycle jackets with just enough detail.
+ can we have a quick moment of silence for miss Erin Wasson slaying her head to toe patchwork...
